The 100 Watt 40 Meter Mini G5RV: An Ultralight Multi-Band Small Profile Antenna for Home, Portable, POTA, SOTA Stealth and Base Operations. Rugged and Dependable.

Our newest antenna, from an idea put forward by the Vero Beach Ham Club, is a small profile, yet highly capable, G5RV style antenna for use on the upper bands, designed to take advantage of the upcoming solar cycle. Multi-band antennas are very convenient: small-profile multi-band antennas that are easy to erect and operate can turn a good POTA activation into a great one. For those occasions, we now offer a multi-band G5RV for 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 meters in a featherweight, ultra-compact form with exceptional performance up to 100 Watts SSB at a reasonable price. Check out our antennas operating in the field and view some excellent ham radio content on YouTube by providers such as Ham Radio Concepts and Outdoors on the Air.

People familiar with our antennas already know that we have a history of constructing compact, light, and effective antennas. The difference here is that we now offer all of the highly portable characteristics of our regular antennas in a 100-Watt capable reduced footprint G5RV. A classic 40 Meter Half Wave Dipole requires (when flat-topped) an end-to-end distance of approximately 65 feet. There are occasions when this is just not feasible. The Micro-G5RV can deliver much the same performance with a footprint of just over 50 feet when fully extended. Less if used in an Inverted V configuration. With this antenna up around 20 - 25 feet, you can experience the performance of a much larger antenna with significantly less space utilized.

This antenna requires a tuner.

Fortunately, there are many lightweight, portable tuners available, and many newer radios include an auto-tuner. If you are equipped this way, then our Mini-G5RV is for you. Bear in mind, however, that some internal tuners, such as the one found in my Yaesu 450D, only tune at a 3:1 or better. If this is the case in your radio, not every band will be available to you. Our antennas are solidly built, rugged and designed to be a high-performance value alternative to much more expensive equipment. Don't take our word for it, please check our feedback as a seller, of which we are very proud.

For reasons we have never fully understood, the G5RV has been the subject of derision in some circles. It was one of the very first multi-band antennas we experienced, and did hundreds of QSOs with it, DX and stateside. For our part this design has always performed well, even though - like all antennas, it is a bit of a compromise. In this case, the small footprint and ultralight, yet rugged construction, rapid deployment and performance on the higher bands will serve any ham radio operator very well.

As we understand it, and as the literature explains, the G5RV on 40 meters performs as a half-wave dipole, on 20 Meters as a folded dipole with the vertical section altering lobes of the radiation pattern to as much as 15 degrees, making it a good DX antenna. On 17 Meters it displays the characteristics of a colinear array with two (almost) half waves fed in phase, on 15 meters a center-fed longwire antenna. On 12 Meters it most closely resembles a full wave antenna, and on 10 meters two full wave antennas fed in phase.
The antenna is a reduced 40 Meter dipole constructed around a BNC Binding Post, fed with 15.5 feet of Ruggedized 300 ohm ladder line. The elements are 20 AWG UL-1007 tinned copper wire, finished with our famous antenna ends. There is a band-by-band SWR readout in the photo section showing values before tuning. If your tuner can compensate then you will be able to effectively transmit on 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10 meters. Every antenna is tested on the air before shipment. Perfect for outdoor or stealth operation. Perfect for a small base station antenna. It is also a great, inexpensive gift to give to those involved with amateur radio that requires no additional finishing. Any user can pull this antenna out of the bag and begin operating immediately once the antenna is in the air.

It fits easily into a pocket, glove box, bag or carrying case.

It takes almost no space and weighs almost nothing. Breaks down into two parts for easy storage. All electrical connections are soldered using silver bearing rosin-core solder. Parts and connections have been weather proofed using marine-grade, adhesive-lined double walled polyolefin shrink tubing. The Mini 40 Meter G5RV weighs under 12oz. (340 grams) and fits into a space 5" x 3" x 1" (127 x 77 x 25mm). Extended, the elements are cut for the 40-meter band with one element approximately 25.5 feet in length.
